* Every year 2,102,400 more children become orphans, in Africa alone.
* Every day 5,760 more children become orphans.
* Every 15 seconds, another child becomes an AIDS orphan in Africa.
It is common that seconds, days, years pass us by without significance. But every second, every minute of every day, there is a chance to live. And with that life, we have a chance to make a difference in the world.
Zoe, the Greek word for life, means ‘to live’, ‘to have life.’
After a cancer diagnosis in early 2011, Living Zoe founder, Andy Blough, was given a new appreciation for what it means to live and to have life. Andy’s fight with cancer inspired him to create a practical way to fight for the lives of individuals that are unable to fight for themselves.
Prior to cancer however, Andy had already realized his heart for serving others. Through visiting an AIDS orphanage in Uganda in 2001 and later working for YWAM in Sri Lanka, Andy began to look for a way to make a difference on a larger scale. After a moving conversation with a friend and fellow cancer survivor, Andy decided to take action.
The creation of Living Zoe was the practical realization of a desire to instigate change in the world. The tragic diagnosis of cancer became the inspiration to make a difference in others’ lives.
Among all the devastating stories and staggering statistics, one thing has remained constant for Living Zoe—the pursuit has always been about the kids. Children sold into the sex trade, forced to work in extreme conditions, molested, used as tiny soldiers, orphaned or simply abandoned by parents who couldn’t afford them any longer. And the reminder—that as we look at our own healthy, thriving children, that all children are meant to be appreciated, loved and fought for.
The answer came in the form of Living Zoe: seeking to turn your shopping power into humanitarian aid. The development of the Living Zoe Platform over several years, allowed us to utilize technology, relationships and everyday shopping to create lasting sustainable aid for those in need. In addition, Living Zoe enables us to partner with others, help to develop funds for their causes and create essential humanitarian aid, all in the same process.
Thanks for joining in my journey—it’s a journey focused on appreciating life, seeking to give life to others, and realizing the change we can each make as individuals.
